The chocolate chip cookie has a delightful origin story. It was invented in 1938 by Ruth Graves Wakefield, who owned the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth was known for her delicious desserts, and one day, she decided to add chopped pieces of a Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate bar to her cookie dough, expecting the chocolate to melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate pieces retained their shape, resulting in the first batch of chocolate chip cookies.
Ida’s Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie is a twist on the original recipe; the addition of browned butter and a variety of chocolate chips work together to elevate the overall flavor of this memorable treat.
